Actor Rutger Hauer generously agreed to teach a Master Class in film acting, on his way back from shooting a film in Australia. The Academy offered this class Free-of-charge to its students. Mr. Hauer showed an excellent 9 minute Short Film and then spoke and answered questions for almost 3 hours. The class was entranced and learned a great deal about acting in film, the realities of working on the set, working with directors, filmmaking, and much, much more. Three hours was much too short and Mr. Hauer graciously offered to come back again and shoot some scenes with the class and provide feedback. We can hardly wait!

Rutger Hauer Biography from Leonard Maltin's Movie Encyclopedia: Brawny, handsome leading man whose steely blue eyes, strong jaw, and blond hair immediately telegraph his Aryan ancestry. Although he was a leading man in his early Dutch films and has starred in many English-language movies in recent years, Hauer is at his best when playing icy villains like the rogue replicant in Blade Runner (1982), which first drew him the attention of mainstream American audiences. He initially won international recognition as a heroic freedom fighter in Paul Verhoeven's Soldier of Orange (1979) and worked with the director again in Spetters (1980) and the English language Flesh + Blood (1985). He made an impressive American debut as a terrorist pursued by New York cop Sylvester Stallone in Nighthawks (1981), and made his American TV debut in Inside the Third Reich (1982), playing Albert Speer. The costume adventure Ladyhawke (1985) cast him in a classic hero mold. OTHER FILMS INCLUDE: 1975:The Wilby Conspiracy 1983:The Osterman Weekend 1984:A Breed Apart 1985: Eureka 1986:The Hitcher (in one of his most chilling villainous roles); 1988:The Legend of the Holy Drinker 1989:Bloodhounds of Broadway (curiously but effectively cast as a Damon Runyon gangster); 2002 Confessions of a Dangerous Mind. |
