Saturday Class ~ Acting Basics, Commercials, Auditioning Workshop, On-camera, & Scene-Study

Academy president Scott Rogers on set,
    coaching "Baywatch" star Stacy Kamano

This 2 hour course meets on Saturdays, at 2:30pm. It is designed for those with little or no on-camera training.

Class explores varied acting, improvisational, auditioning and on-camera techniques, that give the actor a foundation from which to begin working in commercials and if desired, to build upon, with training in Television and Film Acting.

The curriculum applies standard acting skills to the needs and requirements of commercial and audition situations. Students learn to focus on believability while remaining conversational, recognizing style and gaining audition security. This course will teach students the required skills for cold reading and the importance of "bringing themselves" to the table to land the callback. They will learn basic camera shots and acting techniques tailored to the technical demands of the camera - i.e. acting in C.U. vs master shots, "hitting marks", finding and working in key light, and eye line. Students will focus on character development, script analysis and listening (action/reaction) skills throughout this course.

Upon completion of this course, student will have gained a firm understanding of:

¨ Improvisation: (understanding Objective and Obstacles)

¨ Text Analysis: (4 easy steps to breaking down a script)

¨ Building a Character: (Being Believable)

¨ Working On-Set: (what to do & what not to do, crew, expectations)

¨ Audition Technique: The Secret to Getting Call-Backs: (getting the job, what works, what doesn’t and why, how to dress, what to say)

¨ "Cold" Readings: (tips and technical adjustments)

¨ Listening: The Key to Great Acting: (Turning Good acting into Great)

¨ Understanding "The Business" (Unions, Resumes & Industry Publications, Contracts, Agents & Managers)

¨ Introduction to the Camera: (The Basics — Camera technique, shot types, Frame size, etc.)
